Keeping the ethos of Chandigarh as an urban experiment, and L&T Realty’s pioneering involvement with Multiuse development (1 million sq.ft. of retail space), we chose ELANTE as our foray into commercial projects. We aimed to translate our research around urban public space to the new vocabulary of city Malls.
In a city that is becoming dense, the Capitol Complex still maintains its iconic open quality. The central courtyard at ELANTE reiterates the sense of openess inherent in the city. Using nuances of levels, planting, circulation and seating distinct spaces of varying scales have been crafted. Nomenclature of People’s plaza and Plumeria court and pebble court are translated into the actual use of materials to lend an identity to each of these spaces enabling their use singularly for more personal interaction or together for larger events. Elante epitomizes the new vocabulary of retail as an addition to the repertoire of urban public space.
Elante is also an experiment in construction aswell. On the client’s recommendation we were taken on as Landscape Construction Advisors by the contractors to ensure excellance in quality of supervision. We played a vital role in interfacing with all external services and ensuring that the usability, safety and aesthetics of the project remain true to the original vision.
